Virtual TourWelcome to the Tanycastell website.

Nestled at the foothill of Moel Siabod in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, on the outskirts of Dolwyddelan (4 miles from Betws y Coed – North Wales’ main walking centre) is the historic cottage of TANYCASTELL. A grade II listed building, TANYCASTELL was the birthplace of John Jones, Talysarn; one of Wales’ most prominent Calvinist Methodist preachers (1796-1857). A marble monument in his honour is located at the drive to the house.

Situated across the main road (A470) is the historic castle of Llywelyn the Great built between 1210-1240. It is one of the few remaining Welsh built castles and can be visited daily between 9am - 6pm.

TANYCASTELL is truly an ideal setting for a short or long break in a stunning rural location. Once here you can indulge in all types of pastimes from hill to mountain walking, climbing, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, bird watching or simply relaxing and taking in the laid back pace of Welsh country life. There is an abundance of beaches, lakes, rivers, hills and mountains nearby and you can walk up Moel Siabod from TANYCASTELL! Alternatively visit some of the many tourist attractions a stone’s throw away or take in the rural pace of life found in small villages and market towns.  Around TANYCASTELL you may well come across foxes, badgers, voles, buzzards, herons and at dusk bats and owls.
